AEO/SEO Engine

The AEO/SEO Engine tracks how the client shows up in Google and in AI answers (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini), reports on it every month, and turns what it finds into work: content to write, pages to refresh, technical fixes, and places to get mentioned.

What it does

The AEO/SEO Engine tracks how the client shows up in Google and in AI answers (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini), reports on it every month, and turns what it finds into work: content to write, pages to refresh, technical fixes, and places to get mentioned.

Set it up

Work through these in order. "What's left to set up for the AEO/SEO engine?" shows which are done for the client, with the next one to do.

  1. Website — Give the client's website URL.
  2. Google Search Console — Grant access (or add the Google account your Nexus team gave you to the property). One grant covers GA4 too.
  3. Google Analytics 4 (optional) — Same Google grant as Search Console; give the GA4 property id if it isn't detected.
  4. Market (country + language) — Primary country + language (keyword research needs both).
  5. Keyword universe — Run keyword research.
  6. Tracked AI questions (prompt library) — Build the buyer questions AI engines are asked.
  7. Competitors to track (optional) — Name 3-6 competitors so share of AI answers can be measured.
  8. Bing Webmaster Tools (Copilot data) (optional) — Verify the site in Bing Webmaster Tools and import its AI Performance report.

Steps marked ✋ need a person:

  • ✋ Give Nexus Search Console access: add the Google account your Nexus team gave you as a user on the property, or sign in through the link Nexus posts. One grant covers GA4 too (see the Search Console and Analytics guide).
  • ✋ Name 3 to 6 competitors, so Nexus can measure who wins the AI answers.
  • ✋ Optional: verify the site in Bing Webmaster Tools and share its AI Performance export (see the tracked AI questions guide).

Then "Turn on the AEO/SEO engine." Nexus shows what it will schedule and waits for your approval. It only schedules what the client can support:

  • the monthly SEO report (site health, keyword rankings, content performance),
  • monthly AI visibility, plus weekly AI-visibility checks,
  • a monthly content-gap report,
  • a quarterly technical SEO audit and AI-visibility scorecard.

The same approval builds the tracked AI questions if there are none, and starts keyword research if there is no keyword universe. Keyword research takes a few minutes; the reply says what is ready, what is still running, and what needs a fix.

Use it

  • "Write the search and AI visibility report for last month." One Google Doc per month: share of AI answers against competitors, Google organic, what was shipped, what moved, where the client is losing, and next month's plan.
  • "Show the SEO dashboard." The live dashboard for the client.
  • "Send me the search visibility dashboard link." The client-safe search and AI visibility dashboard.
  • "What should we do next for their SEO?" One prioritized action list from everything the reports found. See the SEO and AI visibility actions guide.

Maintain

  • Reports, AI-visibility checks and audits run on their schedules once the engine is on.
  • Your Nexus team reviews the monthly report and the weekly SEO actions before anything changes.
  • "What have we done for their SEO this month?" lists what was published, refreshed, fixed and measured.
  • Each quarter: "Build the QBR pack for last quarter."

Troubleshooting

  • No SEO report was scheduled. Search Console isn't connected. Connect it, then turn the engine on again.
  • Keyword research didn't start. The client has no country or language. Set them: "Their primary country is the United States and their language is English."
  • The AI-visibility rate moved but the report says "no significant change". The change is within the margin of error for that number of answers. Nexus only calls a change real when it is significant.
