AEO strategy

The AEO strategy is the plan for getting the client named and cited when its buyers ask AI engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, Google AI Overviews) the questions that lead to a purchase. It is its own document, separate from the content strategy. It covers.

What it does

The AEO strategy is the plan for getting the client named and cited when its buyers ask AI engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, Google AI Overviews) the questions that lead to a purchase. It is its own document, separate from the content strategy. It covers:

  • Where AI visibility stands: how often the answers name the client and link to its site, and on which engines.
  • Priority buyer questions: the tracked questions worth winning first, and how each one does today.
  • Answer assets to build: the pages, FAQs, comparisons and data the engines need to name and cite the client.
  • Entity and off-site presence: a consistent description of the company, third-party mentions, reviews and directories.
  • Technical readiness: AI crawler access, structured data, page speed, and agent-readable Markdown (agent readiness, not a ranking lever).
  • Competitors in AI answers, how it is measured, and a 90-day roadmap.

Set it up

  1. The G2M must exist first.
  2. Optional but better: "Build the AEO prompts." The strategy picks its priority questions from the tracked questions, and quotes the visibility figures from their answers.
  3. "Create an AEO strategy." Nexus says what it builds from and what it costs (about $0.50), then builds it after a yes. A Google Doc lands in the client's AEO Strategy folder in Drive.

Figures are never invented. When no AI answers are on file yet, the current figures read "not measured yet". A target the team hasn't set reads "not set" and becomes a question for the team.

Use it

  • "Show the AEO strategy." reads it section by section.
  • Change one part without rebuilding: "Rewrite the 90-day roadmap section of the AEO strategy to start with comparison pages."
  • "Give me the AEO strategy as a markdown file." saves a .md copy in the same Drive folder, with a download link. Exporting again replaces the file, so the link stays the same.
  • It is a versioned strategy like the others: reviewer comments on the Doc, approval and the strategy dashboard all work.

Prompts

  • "Build the AEO prompts."
  • "Create an AEO strategy."
  • "Show the AEO strategy."
  • "Rewrite the 90-day roadmap section of the AEO strategy to start with comparison pages."
  • "Give me the AEO strategy as a markdown file."
